A place to arrive
Forest, mountains, and river. Ten cabins, a quiet meditation hall, a beautiful garden, and a kitchen where everything is made from scratch. This is Dharma Mountain.
For more than 25 years, meditation has shaped the atmosphere of Dharma Mountain. Together with the surrounding nature, it creates a place of silence and presence where you can simply be, rest, and receive.
The retreat center is located in Hedalen, in southern Valdres, about two hours from Oslo. Below you can learn more about where we are, where you will stay, what we serve, our practice spaces, wellness treatments, and our garden.
Surrounded by forest, river and mountains
The retreat center is surrounded by a beautiful garden filled with flowers, a pond with a walking path, and a birch forest with many peaceful places to sit. We also have a large open meadow where you can watch the sunrise, sunset, or the full moon rising above the landscape—an ideal place for morning meditation with the wild mountains of Vassfaret in the distance.
Walking trails follow the beautiful Urula River, where you will find many lovely places to swim. The Vassfaret Nature Reserve, known for its untouched wilderness, is only a 30- minute drive away.

Four cabins have a fireplace. You can choose a private room or share a room with others

Come, taste and enjoy
At Dharma Mountain we serve vegetarian, healthy and tasty food for every meal. We make everything from scratch with fresh ingredients and use organic ingredients wherever possible. The menu is balanced, but the most important thing for us is the taste and the dining experience. We draw inspiration from cuisines around the world.
Main house
The main house is the center of activity at Dharma Mountain. On the ground floor you find the main meditation room with a beautiful mountain view, the reception with Dharma Shop, the eating area and the kitchen. Downstairs, in the basement, you’ll find the toilets, sauna and showers, as well as a small library. There is also a cozy place to sit and read.

Our approach to meditation
For us, meditation is more than a technique. It is about reconnecting with the deep stillness and natural presence that already exists inside each of us. In modern life, our attention is constantly pulled outward. We are encouraged to achieve, improve, and stay busy, and many of us lose touch with this quiet place inside ourselves. Meditation practices help us return to that inner stillness that has always been there.
The presence and clarity we develop through meditation naturally become part of everyday life—in our work, our relationships, and everything we do. Within ourselves there is a place of rest where we can always find peace and nourishment, whatever happens around us.
At Dharma Mountain you can learn and experience many different meditation techniques and practices. Read more about some of them on our blog.

Between birch trees and singing birds in the forest, we have three small cabins where we offer treatments. A treatment can be a good support during a group — to relax and become able to receive more.

Permaculture in practice
Permaculture is a set of design tools based on observations in nature. The principles can be used for all purposes and help us to plan more consciously and in harmony with nature. At Dharma Mountain, we have adopted the principles in our edible flower bed, in the vegetable garden, waste sorting and composting - and more projects are being planned.
During the summer months there is a lot to see. Feel free to ask for a tour the next time you are here.
