Create Your Own Meditation Space at Home

Do you dream of meditating regularly or want to create more time to nurture yourself and find peace? A great place to start is by setting up a small, physical space at home dedicated to just that.

You don’t need a separate room or a lot of space – a corner, a windowsill, or a small table can be more than enough. Get creative! The most important thing is to create a space that gives you a sense of calm and presence.

Take some time to design the space in a way that inspires you. Use items that bring you peace – perhaps natural materials, soft colors, a scent you love, or sounds that feel soothing. Keep the area clean and tidy, and let it serve only this purpose.

How you set up your meditation space is entirely up to you. Maybe you prefer something simple and minimalist, with just a cushion or a chair. Or perhaps you want to fill the space with many elements that inspire you. Either way, make this space your own – a place that reminds you of the stillness and peace you’re seeking.

Need inspiration to get started? In the photos, you’ll see meditation spaces created by some of us at Dharma Mountain. These examples show how you can create your own sanctuary for peace and presence, no matter your style or the amount of space you have available.

Ideas for your meditation space:
• A small Buddha statue
• A meditation bowl or bells
• Candles
• Natural elements you love – pine branches, stones, flowers, or twigs
• A picture – of nature, someone you love, or anything else meaningful
• Incense or a diffuser with essential oils
• A speaker for music that calms or inspires you
• A notebook and pen for writing down thoughts, reflections, and insights
• Wisdom cards – you could draw a card and let it stay in the space for a few days

It can be helpful to have a designated place to sit (or lie down) that you use only for meditation, like a chair, a meditation cushion, or a blanket. But it can also be a cozy corner of your sofa, as shown here.
